vista beta main os

Vista Beta as main OS?

Hello!
Is anyone out there running Vista as their main OS at home? If so, any issues? Games and Apps running fine? Windows OneCare working well too?
Thanks, Brian

I wouldn't recommend anyone especially from the general public run Vista as their main OS. Windows Vista does not support Vista and won't be supported until after Vista RTMs.
Who is the Windows Vista BETA 2 for? IT Professionals, Developers, Enthusiast, people who like to back up their data and try out new things and don't have issues just in case something goes wrong installing the software.
Is it recommended I use Windows Vista in a production environment? Well, this is a tricky question, since it is pre-released software which is still not ready for prime time. My recommendation would be no, its still too early and there is a guarantee of failure and there have been reports of system failure with Windows Vista BETA 2, so I would use it only for curiosity, enthusiasm and giving in feedback about what works and what does not work. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

If all you would do is the internet then using vista as the main os is fine. that's pretty much all I do. There are issues though, but I've not run into anything that would keep it from being an internet only main OS.

I just may setup a dual boot then...does the install program make it easy to do that? Thanks!

Yes, especially if you launch setup from within XP, type in your Product Key, accept the EULA > click Next > click Custom > select the partition you dedication for Windows Vista. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta "Brian" wrote in message

No, it does nothing about dual boot.

If you can try Vista on a secondary PC or in a virtual machine then it's fun and there are many nice features to explore. As main OS it's a suicide: some programs don't work well, some programs don't work at all, drivers support for some hardware is awful or non existent, so it can get a painful experience. Getting closer to the official release (2/2007) or after things will improve surely, but now it's too early.

Windows OneCare Live is not compatible right now with Vista.

I'm using it as my main os http://cpunary.blogspot.com/ though I still have to boot into kubuntu occasionally. I'm even writing this post using just the speech recognition. cygwin does not work, and the screen freezes completely on occasion. So I save regularly.
